MEETING OF EARTH AND SKY

Museum of the Southwest

The Museum of the Southwest bridges the two plots of the Old Town master plan in downtown Scottsdale, Arizona, over Drinkwater Blvd. Situated at the key intersection of Drinkwater and Indian School Rd., the 100.000 sq. ft Museum is designed to house several prominent collections of Southwestern native and modern art, intermixed between its two wings. Clad elegantly in glass fractals and stone the color of the Arizona desert, the Museum symbolizes the poignant meeting of earth and sky. The Museum’s two buildings are connected by a bridge over Drinkwater that in turn join the two plots of the master plan, allowing for a seamless and enjoyable pedestrian experience. Inside both wings, dramatic double- and triple-story spaces interlock with the galleries and administrative offices, creating an unforgettable encounter with both contemporary architecture and Southwestern art.
