House X - West Palm Beach, USA
Designed to the requests of an art collector specializing in 21st-century art, Libeskind Studio Design created House X as the epitome of a customized home. The residence is centered around a massive X on the main façade, meant as a sly and enigmatic reference to the state of the contemporary art world. Designed to filter light into the private art gallery, the X illuminates the cavernous space just enough to contemplate the artworks as illuminated by the Floridian sun without the sunlight ever touching them directly.
Interlocking volumes clad in an elegant metal fractal skin weave around the window cuts and muscular angles, providing a hyper-modern look in an area full of neoclassical and faux Tuscan homes. Another distinct creature comfort is the irregular shape of the pergola, which allows rainwater to filter through the trellis and water the vegetation. This system, working in conjunction with the oxygenizing and thermally-adjusting fractal tiles, cools the interior of House X and provides heightened oxygen levels within and around the dwelling. A tailored pool design, accented by an adjoining terrace and overlooking roof deck, offers respite from the heat.
The project was realized by Lev Libeskind and his studio in Italy.
